Getting to Your YES With Human Design

Human Design is a modality founded by Ra Uru Hu that combines the ideologies of Western Astrology, the Hindu Chakra system, The Kabbalah Tree of Life, the I Ching, Genetics, and Quantum Mechanics.

In Human Design, each person has a specific blueprint for this particular life. This includes the way each of us naturally gets an answer to a question, so it is the correct answer for us. Often, we let the mind and logic make our decisions, but when we override our natural response system to listen to the mind, we often make decisions that turn out to be “wrong” for us. In reality, there really is no right or wrong. Some decisions take us down a path that may take longer to learn the lessons, and hopefully we will gain the wisdom from those tough decisions.

When a Human Design chart is created, one of the crucial aspects of a design is how each person gets to their Yes, No, or Not Now, which is termed Inner Authority. I summarize the different Inner Authorities below. To determine what your specific Inner Authority is, you can run a chart for yourself on either of the following websites for free, and it will tell you what your Authority is. All you need is your birth date, birth time and location of birth to create an accurate Human Design chart.

Splenic Authority – “Instant Decisions” - When you have Splenic Authority, your decisions are made as a very quiet spark of knowing through your intuition. You may not know why that is your answer in that particular moment, but you must learn to listen for it and trust it. It will not guide you wrong. You have the ability to make instantaneous snap decisions.

Sacral Authority – “Follow Your Gut” - When you have Sacral Authority, your decisions are made in the gut with a verbal uh-huh (for yes) or uh-uh (for no or not now). To get the answer, it has to come in the form of a question from an outside source. A good strategy to use for big questions is to have a trusted friend ask you questions about the situation, so you can listen for your answer in your gut. Yes/no questions are best for this authority type.

Emotional Authority – “Be Emotionally Clear” - When you have Emotional Authority, your decisions are made after you go through a roller coaster ride of emotions about the situation. This could take a few minutes, hours, days or even a month to process the emotions. Your answer comes in the stillness at the end of the emotional highs and lows. If you make a decision before your emotional processing is complete, you are likely to make a decision that is more challenging for you.

Heart Authority – “Do What You Want” - If your heart wants it, it is your job to make it happen. It is straightforward and direct. What is your heart’s desire? If your heart is not in it, the answer is No. Think about what is in it for you.

Self-Authority – “Be True to Yourself” - Decisions are made by “knowing,” which can be quite subtle sometimes. Your answer will be an innate knowing you can’t explain. Listen to what you say, as there is truth in the words you speak.

Outer Authority – “Accessing Intelligence” - Your decisions are made through an external process. Ideas must be researched and fully thought through over a period of time. Usually a lunar cycle of 29 days is the recommended amount of time to process the information for you to make an informed decision.

For more information on Inner Authority as it relates to Human Design, I recommend reading Human Design: Discover the Person You Were Born to Be by Chetan Parkyn and The Definitive Book of Human Design: The Science of Differentiation by Lynda Bunnell and Ra Uru Hu. Trusting your personal authority and being guided by it is important for major decisions in your life.

With my coaching clients, I work with their overall Human Design blueprint to help guide them to what is best for them.
