4 Strategies to Maintain Your Spiritual Environment in the New Year

As this new year is upon us, we often have new dreams and goals we want to fulfill in the year ahead. It’s easy to become distracted by the immediate things going on in our life and to neglect our inner spiritual world. I share four strategies to maintain your spiritual environment to help you manifest your innermost desires.

1. Vision Board

Creating a vision board helps you visualize your goals and dreams daily and is a powerful tool of manifestation. Having a vision board energizes the space with your intentions even more powerfully. When you are in your space looking at your board, you are able to generate more energy toward your dreams, so they become reality.

Creating a vision board can be done once a year or several times a year. Do what calls to you. The time and focus that goes into creating your board helps you to hold your intention in your mind’s eye during the process.

Once you have your board completed, hang it in a prominent place where you will see it daily. The more time your mind spends taking in the images on the board, the more likely your subconscious mind is to call your desires into being.

2. Spiritual Altar

The purpose of creating a spiritual altar is to reinforce the intentions of your desires by calling in spiritual energies. To create an altar, the first step is to find a location in your home where it is visible to you. It could be in a corner of a room, on top of a table or dresser or even on a bookshelf.

Select objects that represent your intention for the altar. Examples of things to include would be a light source, such as a candle or a salt lamp; fresh flowers or herbs; inspirational books; crystals/stones; photos of loved ones or spiritual figures; elements from nature (shells, rocks, feathers, coral, sticks, etc.) and bells or chimes.

Once your altar is set up, bless it by saying words of gratitude or a prayer. Use it in a daily ritual to enhance its energy.

3. Mantras & Affirmations

An effective practice that can help you connect to your spiritual self and rewire your brain is saying mantras or affirmations. A mantra can be a single word or sound repeated over and over to aid in concentration for meditation, such as in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. They are sacred and practiced in a devotional, spiritual way. Affirmations are statements or slogans repeated frequently. They are motivational, helping you to overcome negative thoughts limiting you. Some people use the terms manta and affirmation interchangeably.

When you are creating your own affirmation or mantra, there are some important elements that you will want to include for them to be effective. Your affirmation must be in the present tense, such as “I am . . .,” “I have . . .,” “I trust . . .” and so on. By writing or saying the affirmation in the present tense, you are creating the energy of those words for you now. The brain responds to present tense statements. Your affirmation must only include positive words to work effectively.

Once you have one or more affirmations, it is imperative to make it a daily practice to repeat the affirmation to yourself throughout the day. You might want to write it on a piece of paper that you put in a place that you see frequently such as in your car, on your bathroom mirror or at your office. To strengthen the affirmation, you can put a physical touch with it, such as done in the EFT tapping technique.

4. Meditation and Visualization

There are many different ways to do meditation. You can quiet your mind. You can be led on a meditative journey. You can focus on specific dreams and goals. You can say mantras or affirmations while meditating. With meditation, the more you do it, the easier it gets. It helps calm and clear the mind to keep you in a healthy spiritual environment.

During meditation, you may choose to include visualization techniques. When in the meditative state, in your mind you consciously focus on what you want to create – your dreams, goals, and desires. You can visualize and say affirmations in your mind, saying each affirmation slowly and consciously three times. You can also create images in your mind representing what you want to create. Hold the image in your mind’s eye for as long as you can. Feel the emotion of what it would be like to have already manifested your desire. Be present with each one fully. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between experiences you have with your eyes open or shut, so the more real you can make the visualizations in your mind, the more likely your brain will wire to the new pattern and create the reality.

The more you incorporate spiritual practices into your daily life, whatever they are, the more likely you will be to manifest your dreams.
